Scripture readings for today

Today’s reading of Susanna’s plight reads like a fast-paced, page-turning novel. I found myself totally immersed in the unfolding events and characters. No doubt about it, Susanna was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Have you ever felt this way? Despite what appeared to be a lose-lose situation, Susanna trusted God.

Her prayer was simple and faith-filled,

“O eternal God, you know what is hidden
and are aware of all things before they come to be:
you know that they have testified falsely against me.
Here I am about to die,
though I have done none of the things
with which these wicked men have charged me.”

She trusted God completely and handed the entire matter over to Him.

I imagine many were surprised when God used a young boy to save the day. 3-23

Not long ago, I faced a difficult situation. I thought long and hard and decided that only two solutions were possible and, frankly, they both were horrible. I prayed to God for guidance and naively proposed option A and option B. Well low and behold, he answered my prayer and delivered the most amazing option C. God trumped my prayer and everything worked out more beautifully than I ever expected.

If there is an element of control to your prayers, be inspired by Susanna’s faith and trust completely in the all-knowing, awesome power, and creativity of our God.
